September 2024 - December 2024
During my 2B term at UWaterloo, I worked in the Forming and Crash Lab at the University of Waterloo as an undergraduate research assistant, under the supervision of Professor John Magliaro. I designed two versions of a high-velocity, low-energy impact sled fixture to enable the lab to test combined compressive-shear loading of high-deformation materials. Ultimately, neither of these concepts were built (the lab's main design engineer finally had some bandwidth to take on the project), but it was a really fun challenge in learning about impact testing, linear motion systems, pneumatics, and a first-principles approach to sizing components for appropriate impact velocity and energy targets.
